Okit Viewpoint Total score -
From Okit Hill you have a wonderful view of Vodice and the Island of Prvić, as well as of Šibenik and the Island of Zlarin!
Okit is situated next to Vodice, 2.4 kilometres from the point where you turn off the Adriatic highway towards Gaćeleze. On Okit Hill is the Church of Our Lady of Mount Carmel, while from the mountain you have a wonderful view of Vodice and the Island of Prvić, as well as of Šibenik and the Island of Zlarin. The beautiful view towards Vodice, Šibenik, the islands, the sea and the church is unique and memorable.
The first church on Okit was built in 1660. On its foundations the ancient shrine of Our Lady was built, but in 1942 during the Second World War it was totally destroyed by the Italian Navy. The new shrine was built 25 years later, in 1967. Unfortunately it was destroyed again, this time by the artillery of the Yugoslav National Army.
The shrine was rebuilt in 2007. (Source: Text at the entrance to the Church of Our Lady of Mount Carmel on Okit)
