Come to Mother's Customs (Materine užance) and savor the cooking of our grandmothers! (13 July, 7 & 24 August 2014)
ABOUT THE EVENT
Materine užance (Mother's Customs) is an ethno-food festival organised by the Pakoštane Tourist Board and the Pakoštane Municipality. It has been taking place every year since 2008. Materine užance has been taking place in the centre of Pakoštane.
Come to Materine užance, to the stone streets of the old city of Pakoštane and among the ancient walls delight in the fare of our mothers, grandmothers and great-grandmothers: čućke, gnocchi, boiled octopus, shellfish, pršut (smoked ham), cheeses and sweet desserts like almonds in sugar, mimice, fritule, and kroštule.
Away from the paths trodden by armies, beyond the routes sailed by ships armed with cannons, lived women, women who were rarely recorded in history because history has always been the story of wars, conquering armies, of burning and plundering. These women also lived through history; they are our mothers, wives, daughters. Whilst always recording the garish uniforms of conquerors, history rarely recorded the folk clothing worn by women. Whilst armies celebrated victories, history failed to record the food the women prepared and laid before the victors or the defeated. Their skills, crafts and deeds were not recorded. Of all the women throughout history, only those women whose beauty caught the eye of rulers and soldiers were noted. This event is the beginning of the story of a great history of the region – the history of women.
Ethno food festival will be held held in the old center of Pakoštane on 13 July, 7 and 11 August 2014 at 7 pm.
Entrance is free of charge. (Source: TZ Pakoštane)
